Open Access Publishing Under Creative Commons Licensing
Journal of Public Health International (JPHI) is an open access journal that publishes all articles under the Creative Commons Attribution License (CC BY 4.0). This licensing model ensures that research is freely accessible worldwide while protecting author rights and facilitating broad dissemination of scientific knowledge.

Open Access Benefits
The open access publishing model under CC BY 4.0 licensing provides significant benefits to authors, readers, and the broader research community:
Maximum Visibility
Open access articles are freely available to anyone worldwide without subscription barriers, dramatically increasing readership, downloads, and citations compared to subscription-based publications.
Global Impact
Researchers in resource-limited settings, policymakers, healthcare practitioners, students, and the general public can access your work, amplifying real-world impact on public health practice and policy.
Enhanced Discoverability
Open access articles are indexed more comprehensively in search engines, databases, and academic platforms, improving discoverability and citation rates significantly.
Compliance with Mandates
Open access publication satisfies requirements from funding agencies (NIH, Wellcome Trust, European Commission) and institutional policies mandating public access to research outputs.
Accelerated Knowledge Transfer
Immediate public availability accelerates the pace of scientific discovery, allowing other researchers to build upon your findings without delay or access barriers.
Reuse and Innovation
The CC BY license permits reuse, adaptation, and derivative works, enabling educational use, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and innovative applications of your research.

Self-Archiving and Green Open Access
JPHI fully supports self-archiving practices and green open access initiatives:
Pre-Print Posting
Authors may post pre-prints (pre-peer review versions) on pre-print servers (e.g., medRxiv, bioRxiv, SSRN) at any time. We encourage citation of the final published version once available.
Post-Print Archiving
Authors may archive the final published version (publisher's PDF) in any repository immediately upon publication with no embargo period. This includes institutional repositories, subject repositories (e.g., PubMed Central), and personal websites.
Version Control
When archiving, clearly identify which version you are depositing (pre-print, accepted manuscript, or final published version) and provide a link to the version of record on the JPHI website.
Copyright Transfer and Publishing Agreement
Upon manuscript acceptance, the corresponding author will be asked to sign a Publishing Agreement on behalf of all co-authors. This agreement:
- Confirms that authors retain copyright of their work
- Grants JPHI an exclusive license to publish the article
- Confirms the work is original and has not been published elsewhere
- Confirms all authors have approved the final version
- States that all necessary permissions for third-party content have been obtained
- Declares funding sources and conflicts of interest
- Confirms compliance with ethical standards for human/animal research
- Agrees to publication under CC BY 4.0 license
The publishing agreement is sent electronically and can be signed digitally for convenience.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I republish my JPHI article elsewhere?
Yes. Since you retain copyright, you can reuse your article in books, anthologies, dissertations, or other works. You must acknowledge JPHI as the original publisher and cite the published version.
Can I share my article on social media?
Absolutely. We encourage sharing through Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, ResearchGate, and other platforms. JPHI provides shareable links and DOIs for easy distribution.
What if my funder requires a specific license?
CC BY 4.0 is the most permissive Creative Commons license and satisfies requirements from major funders including NIH, Wellcome Trust, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, European Commission (Horizon Europe), and others. Contact us if you have specific concerns.
Can I use a more restrictive license?
JPHI publishes exclusively under CC BY 4.0 to maximize accessibility and reuse. We do not offer alternative licensing options. This aligns with open science best practices and funder requirements.
What about commercial use of my research?
CC BY 4.0 permits commercial use with proper attribution. This enables textbook publishers, commercial training programs, and companies to use research findings, ultimately expanding the impact and application of your work while you retain copyright ownership.
Copyright Infringement
JPHI takes copyright infringement seriously. If you believe someone has used your JPHI article without proper attribution or in violation of the CC BY 4.0 terms:
- Contact the individual or organization to request proper attribution
- If unresolved, contact JPHI at [email protected] with details
- We will assist in resolving copyright disputes and ensuring proper attribution
Similarly, if someone claims your JPHI article infringes their copyright, contact us immediately so we can investigate and address the concern appropriately.
