A Special Issue is a focused collection on a question that benefits from being read together. The journal welcomes proposals for them from researchers with relevant expertise.
AN INVITATION
Propose a Special Issue
The Journal of Organ Transplantation welcomes proposals for focused collections that address important questions in transplantation.
Researchers with relevant expertise are invited to review the requirements below and contact the editorial office with an outline. Proposals are considered throughout the year.
Write to [email protected] with the working title, the question the collection would address, and the proposed guest editors.
WHAT TO SEND
What a proposal contains
A short outline is enough to begin. The editorial office will ask for anything further that is needed.
- THE QUESTION
- The scientific question the collection addresses, and why bringing this work together serves it better than separate publication.
- SCOPE
- How the collection sits within the journal’s remit, as set out on Aims and Scope.
- GUEST EDITORS
- Proposed guest editors with their affiliations, relevant publications and ORCID identifiers where registered.
- EXPECTED CONTRIBUTIONS
- An indication of the contributions expected, the formats they would take and the timetable proposed.
GOVERNANCE
How a Special Issue is run
A Special Issue is part of the journal, and every safeguard that applies to an ordinary submission applies within it.
REVIEW AND DECISIONS
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal’s scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
INDEPENDENCE
Guest editors handle the scholarly coordination of the collection. A guest editor takes no decision on a manuscript in which they have a competing interest, and a manuscript by a guest editor is handled independently by a journal editor.
Each article in a Special Issue is published on the same terms as any other article: open access under CC BY 4.0, with a Crossref DOI, and is listed in the Archive.
SUBMITTING
Regular submissions
Submissions on any subject within the journal’s remit are welcome throughout the year, independently of any collection.
