What the board is responsible for
Members of the editorial board provide scholarly stewardship: they assess whether a manuscript sits within the journal’s remit, select and weigh independent peer review, and uphold the journal’s publication ethics. Editors recuse themselves from decisions on their own submissions, and those manuscripts are handled independently.
Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions remain independent of fees, services, memberships and roles, and an editorial appointment confers no advantage in the review or acceptance of that member’s own work.
The full rules the board works to are published on the Editorial Policies page, the handling rules for editors on the For Editors page, and the review standards on the For Reviewers page.
